Education : Joanne attended Lassiter High School, which she graduated from in 1989, at the top of her class. She was voted as the ‘most likely to succeed’ in her final year of school.
After high school, she went on to attend the University of Georgia, where she graduated from with a Bachelor of Science and a major in geography.
She graduated ‘Magna-Cum-Laude,’ and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society during her time there due to her consistency with receiving top grades.
As part of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, she was known for contributing to various charity projects around the university campus.
From there she went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated with her Master’s degree. This was made possible due to her receiving a scholarship from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

After focusing on her education for several years, she landed her first television role in Fresno, California. It consisted of her doing the weekend weather reports for the KMPH network.
She eventually worked her way up to not only being their lead meteorologist but also to being a news anchor for their sister station KFSN.
Later, she received a job offer in Raleigh Durham, North Carolina, which saw her take on the role of a Chief Meteorologist for the WTVD network. She worked there for many years and became a fan favorite.
Her popularity caught the attention of Fox5 executives in 2007, who offered her the role of a meteorologist in 2007. She accepted the role, as it would allow her to be closer to her mother.
Currently, more than a decade later, she is still working for Fox5 as a meteorologist but also as a co-host for Good Day Atlanta. She has won one Emmy while working with them.
